A Powerful Pause: Slowing Down Pedagogy to Deepen Learning

A Powerful Pause invites early childhood educators to slow down and reconnect with the pedagogical foundations of observation, reflection, and professional judgment. Grounded in pedagogical framework, this session explores the pedagogy of listening and the power of intentional pauses in classroom interactions, planning, and curriculum decision-making.

Through guided reflection and practical examples, participants will examine how slowing down supports deeper relationships, honours children’s thinking, and strengthens documentation and planning practices. Educators will explore when to engage, when to observe, and how to resist the pressure of “school readiness” narratives that prioritize pace over presence.

This session reframes slowing down not as a lack of productivity, but as a pedagogical act — one that aligns with quality practice, ethical responsibility, and children’s right to be seen and heard.

Kerry tackled the challenging topic of bias with remarkable professionalism and sensitivity.  Her engaging approach made complex ideas accessible and kept the audience captivated throughout the entire presentation.  Her stories were thought-provoking, and she used them in a way that gently encouraged participants to reflect on their own biases - without making anyone feel defensive!  Thank you Kerry for all that you do!
